ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville has tapped into a lot of great golfing talent from Rockford over the years. Now SIUE has another one on the way.

On Wednesday, Rockford Lutheran golfer Jake Guse committed to SIUE. Guse will be a senior this fall at Lutheran. He follows in the footsteps of former Rockford Boylan golfers Kyle Slattery, Danny Gorman and TJ Baker who all had great success while golfing at SIUE.

As a junior at Lutheran last fall, Guse won a sectional championship. He finished seventh individually at the IHSA State Tournament in 1A. He led Lutheran’s team to a fourth-place finish at State.

As a sophomore at Lutheran, Guse was the Big Northern Conference champion and he tied for fourth individually at the IHSA State Tournament in Class 1A.

Last summer, Guse rose up and nearly won the Greater Rockford Men’s Golf Classic. He finished in second place losing out on a one-hole playoff to Robert Dofflemyer.

Guse is the son of Rockford Lutheran boys’ head basketball coach Tom Guse.
