ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — BMX racers from around the world gathered in Rockford this weekend for the Midwest Nationals.

Hundreds of riders were racing in the USA BMX Midwest Nationals at Rockford BMX, a three-day event that brings out professional and amateur riders.

The track, located at 4950 Safford Road near Lockwood Park, is hailed as one of the best in the nation, something organizers said is still the case even after last weekend’s storms and flooding.

“Tracks like this are pretty wild,” said public relations director Garret Rapp. “You can go from five days ago, to having a back straightaway that’s underwater, to a absolutely flawless BMX track racing on the highest level.”

The racers will begin again at 8 a.m. Sunday morning for their final day on the track.
