ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police Department says so long to two high-ranking officers but also promotes 5 others.

This afternoon, family and friends packed into the Lombardi Club for a promotion and retirement ceremony. Assistant Deputy Chief Joseph Stevens and Randy Berke are both retiring from the force.

Berke said he is excited to move on to the next stage in his life.

“It’s different, it’s odd, you know, 30 and a half years being a Rockford Police Officer that’s longer than over half my life. I love the job, I love the town, I love everything about it, but it’s time,” said Berke. “Being able to spend more time with my wife and my two adult children, Taylor and Lexi, I’m excited to do that. It was a great run, enjoyed the job, and it’s going to be missed.”

The department promoted two Assistant Deputy Chiefs, two Lieutenants and a Sergeant.
