Welcome To Summer In Ohio!
WILMINGTON – It’s an old, old cliche, but one that bears repeating: If you don’t like the weather in Ohio, stick around for 15 minutes. It’s bound to change. The National Weather Service in Wilmington would likely agree as it predicts that several rounds of showers and storms are likely to move across Central Ohio through Friday. Some locally heavy rain and gusty winds will be the primary threats with these storms and repeated rounds of heavy rain may lead to localized flooding.
Proposed law targets retail theft sprees as organized crime
COLUMBUS — Ohio is looking at treating escalating and increasingly violent retail theft sprees as organized crime with a statewide law enforcement task force and stronger criminal penalties. Now in the Senate, a House-passed bill would create the task force to collaborate with the state attorney general's office and the Ohio Organized Crime Commission to assist law enforcement and prosecutors and to share information in real time across jurisdictions. “[Organized retail crime] causes billions of dollars in losses annually,” Rep. Haraz Ghanbari (R., Perrysburg), sponsor of House Bill 366, told his House colleagues. “ORC involves planned large-scale operations targeting retailers across multiple jurisdictions. The National Retail Federation survey shows a 67 percent increase in organized retail crime incidents reported by loss prevention executives.” “ORC disrupts businesses, and it also jeopardizes the safety of consumers and employees,” he said. “Many retailers across Ohio have reduced operating hours or they have closed their stores in some instances due to increased criminal activity. The primary concern in doing so is the escalation of violence associated with these ORC activities.”

Southern Indiana Bank Announces Merger with Heartland BancCorp
German American Bancorp has announced it will merge with Ohio-based Heartland BancCorp. You don't have to drive too far in southwest Indiana to run across a German American Bank building. Growing up in Petersburg, Indiana, I often remember seeing the company's large bank building on Main Street with the flags waving in the wind out front. To me, it's become a staple along the stretch of wide road, and I don't think the city would look the same without it. Since I was a kid, the corporation has grown tremedously and has just announced yet another feat that will expand services into a neighboring state.
