Two Blount County Sheriff’s deputies were injured in a shooting while responding to a domestic call Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting took place around the 1100 block of Jacob Springs Road, according to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Officers issued a shelter in place order in the Jacob Springs area, as well as closed off access to the highway.

BCSO public information officer Marian O’Briant said that deputies had responded to previous domestic calls at the residence.

Personnel from Blount County Fire Department and Knox County Sheriff’s deputies were on-scene along with BCSO.

A post on BSCO’s Facebook page described it as an “active incident with shots fired.”

According to a release from BCSO, the two deputies are receiving treatment at the UT Medical Center with “apparent non-life threatening injuries from gunshot wounds.”

In a press release, Blount County District Attorney Ryan Desmond said his office would release more information regarding criminal charges at a later time.

TBI Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart said, “At the request of 5th Judicial District Attorney General Ryan Desmond, TBI agents are investigating the circumstances leading to an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 1100 block of Jacob Springs Road in Rockford. Additional details will be provided once agents have an opportunity to gather preliminary information.”

TBI often investigates officer-involved shootings. Recently, agents investigated the Feb. 8 shooting of BCSO Deputies Greg McCowan and Shelby Eggers.

The suspect was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon and transported to Blount County Correctional Facility.

O’Briant said that the suspect and the two injured deputies would be identified at a later time. She said the suspect appeared to be uninjured.

    The investigation is ongoing.
