East Columbia Basin Irrigation District in Grant and Adams counties gets federal funding for water conservation
OTHELLO - The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District (ECBID) has been chosen as one of 18 U.S. irrigation districts to participate in a federal program aimed at helping farmers maintain commodity production while conserving water across the West. This initiative, announced by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack, includes a $400 million investment through the Western Water Framework. The funding will support irrigation districts and producers in adopting innovative water-saving technologies and farming practices, with the goal of conserving up to 50,000 acre-feet of water across 250,000 acres of irrigated land.

Fuel Spill Shuts Down Highway 41 for Seven Hours After Semi Crash
ATHOL – The Idaho State Police is investigating a Semi Truck and Trailer crash that occurred on August 2, 2024, at 4:36 p.m. A loaded 2020 Kenworth Tractor and Polar Semi Trailer being driven by a 42-year-old, male from Ellsworth, South Dakota, containing gasoline and diesel fuel failed to negotiate the curve on northbound State Highway 41 just north of Seasons Road. The trailer, loaded with approximately 6000 gallons of fuel overturned and came to rest on its side blocking State Highway 41 in both directions. Approximately 2000 gallons of fuel was spilled. A reverse 911 message was sent to all local residents within a 1-mile radius of the crash, warning of a potential hazard. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office also worked to evacuate any residences within this area.
