RCSO: Shots fired into home, neighbor charged with attempted murder

ROCKINGHAM — A man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting into a neighbor’s home.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies were dispatched Wednesday, June 12, to a home on Stelly Tabernacle Road, southwest of Rockingham.

The resident reportedly told deputies that a neighbor, 23-year-old Rodrigo Serrano Salazar, had fired into the home.

Deputies found where several rounds had entered the home and were told that Salazar lived across the street and had gone back inside before they arrived, according to a press release issued June 20.

Several spent shell casings were reportedly found in Salazar’s yard.

Salazar reportedly came to the door when deputies went to speak with him and he was detained as the investigation continued.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office responded to and processed the scene, and Salazar was taken into custody, according to the press release.

The sheriff’s office has charged Salazar with one felony count each of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property, as well as a misdemeanor charge of injury to personal property.

According to the press release, Salazar was booked into the Richmond County Jail and initially held without bond. However, online court records show his bond has since been set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court June 27.

Online records appear to show Salazar has no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.
