Meth, marijuana reportedly found in probationer’s Richmond County home

ROCKINGHAM — A man on probation is currently facing additional charges after a search reportedly turned up a gun and multiple drugs at his home.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, a probation search was executed June 25 at a home on John Chavis Road, off of County Home Road between Rockingham and Hamlet.

The search — conducted by officers from N.C. Probation and Parole, joined by investigators with the RCSO Community Impact Team and Rockingham Police Department Vice/Narcotics Unit — reportedly resulted in the finding and seizure of:

• a .22-caliber handgun
• 19.9 grams of methamphetamine
• 53.6 grams (1.89 ounces) of marijuana
• one dosage unit of opium
• five dosage units of “other narcotics”
• assorted drug paraphernalia

Brian Michael Wilder, 39, of the home, was arrested and charged with the following felonies: possession of a firearm by a felon; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance; and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.

Wilder is also charged with several misdemeanors: two counts of simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Investigators also charged 33-year-old Tierra Michelle Thompson, of the home, with: possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; possession of methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wilder was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $25,000 secured bond. Thompson was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

The charges, as of early Wednesday afternoon, did not yet appear in state online court records. However, jail records show Wilder’s court date is July 11.

Neither appear to have any other pending charges in the state.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Wilder had just a few days left on a 12-month suspended sentence from a June 27, 2023 conviction for possession of a firearm by a felon.

The previous year, Wilder was convicted on two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Prior to the drug conviction, Wilder’s record shows a handful of minor traffic-related convictions for driving with a revoked license, driving while impaired, driving without a license, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility and speeding in Richmond, Bladen, Randolph and Robeson counties.

Thompson appears to have no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
