    2 more charged in Little Philadelphia shooting

    ROCKINGHAM — Two more men are facing charges in connection to a June 6 shooting in the Little Philadelphia community.

    Richmond County Jail records show 20-year-old Zakeim Lamar Giles was arrested July 11 and 18-year-old Jazalle Christopher Chambers was booked July 12.

    Warrants allege that Chambers and 19-year-old Aric Lamont Ray Jr., both of Rockingham, shot into an occupied mobile home with 9mm handguns on Hawkins Lane on June 6.

    The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office previously reported that several individuals had to take cover to keep from being shot and multiple vehicles were struck.

    According to warrants, a 2014 Nissan Juke and a 2015 Nissan Versa were both damaged.

    Giles, of Hamlet is accused of shooting or shooting at Chambers and Ray with a .45-caliber handgun.

    Ray was arrested June 19 with help from the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

    Chambers and Ray are each charged with: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; discharging a weapon into an occupied property; going armed to the terror of the people; and two counts of damage to personal property.

    Giles is charged with: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury (for allegedly injuring Ray).

    Records show Giles is also charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a motor vehicle with theft, and possession of stolen goods or property.

    Warrants allege that Giles broke into a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche on May 21 and stole a Canik 9mm handgun with a magazine loaded with hollow-point tip and full metal jacket bullets. Giles also reportedly stole a 2020 Nissan Versa.

    Records show Giles is also facing three misdemeanor probation violations.

    Online records show Giles is being held on a combined $102,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 1. Chambers and Ray are each being held on a $1 million secured bond. Their next court date is scheduled for Oct. 3.

    Giles was convicted in January 2023 of misdemeanor larceny and speeding to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, and in August of carrying a concealed weapon, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

    Court records show Giles is also facing the following charges from 2023: possession of a weapon of mass destruction; possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana; possession of marijuana paraphernalia; and carrying a concealed weapon.

    Giles also has the following pending charges from 2022: fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; larceny of a motor vehicle; and possession of a stolen vehicle.

    Records show Ray has two pending counts of carrying a concealed gun pending from earlier this year, as well as several traffic infractions. Chambers has a pending traffic infraction in Cumberland County.

    Neither Chambers nor Ray appear to have any prior convictions in the state.

    All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
