ROCKTON—The Hononegah boys basketball team headed into the fourth quarter of Friday night’s matchup against Rockford Boylan all tied up at 38 and in need of finding a way to get ahead and snap a four-game losing streak.

The Indians responded by locking in on both ends of the court, scoring 17 points and holding the Titans to just seven points as they jumped ahead for the 55-45 win on the campus of Hononegah High School.

Hononegah (9-14, 6-8 NIC-10) held a slim two-point lead after the first quarter and Boylan (9-16, 4-10) fought back to take a 23-22 advantage heading into halftime.

Senior Darian Tholin led the Indians balanced scoring attack with 11 points on 55.6% shooting. Senior Isaiah Houi went 4-for-8 from the field and scored 10 points while adding three assists and steals. Cole Warren contributed nine points while Landon Claudy and Cole Schmal, who grabbed 11 rebounds, each added eight.

    • SOUTH BELOIT 45, CHRISTIAN LIFE 32: The SoBos clinched the Northeastern Athletic Conference title with a big win over the visiting Eagles on Friday night.

South Beloit held a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and upped it to 24-10 by halftime. Christian Life (17-7, 6-2 NAC) cut it to 33-20 after the third quarter but could get no closer.

Junior Ross Robertson paced the SoBos, who went 7-0 in conference play, with 13 points, 21 rebounds, and three blocks and steals. Darius Hampton scored 11 points off the bench and TreyMon Payton-Ruff added 10.

    • SOUTH BELOIT 71, MARENGO 47: The SoBos followed up the big win over the Eagles with a dominant non-conference victory over the Indians on Saturday.

South Beloit (19-5) was once again led by Robertson, who poured on 28 points and added 10 rebounds, eight assists and five blocks. Payton-Ruff and Hampton both contributed seven points.

    • GIRLS: BELOIT TURNER 69, DELAVAN-DARIEN 51: Mariya Babilius absolutely popped off for the Trojans, scoring 26 points with the help of eight 3-pointers.

The senior really could’ve used just one more.

Babilius is now one trey away from breaking the program record for career 3-pointers. Still, the scoring onslaught helped send Turner (16-4, 9-2 Rock Valley Rock) past the visiting Comets (9-11, 4-7 Rock Valley Valley) in an RVC crossover game Saturday.

Sophomore Portia Segerstrom added 13 points and six assists while Jayla Hodges scored 11 points and grabbed five boards. Maliyah Barnes snatched seven rebounds and had eight points.
