    Eight individual wrestling titles give Hononegah impressive outing in Huntley

    HUNTLEY, Ill. — Hononegah’s impressive wrestling season continued into the postseason as it collected first place in the IHSA 3A Huntley Regional by a decisive margin on Saturday.

    The Indians rolled up 249.5 points to easily defeat runnerup Huntley (193). Hampshire (140) was third in the nine-team meet.

    Hononegah placed first in a whopping eight weight divisions, starting back-to-back with Rocco Cassioppi winning at 106 and his brother Bruno taking the 113-pound title. The Indians also picked up titles from Thomas Silva (132), Max Haskins (150), Brody Sendele (157), Connor Diemel (165), Kurt Smith (175) and Isaak Smith.

    The Indians also picked up seconds from Jackson Olson (120) and thirds from Evan Musil (126) and Robert Darling (138).

    At 106, Rocco Cassioppi pinned Kristian DeClercq of Algonquin Jacobs in 4:00 in the finals. Bruno Cassioppi pinned Justin Lewis of Harlem in 1:45 in the 113 finals. Both had byes in the quarterfinals and pinned their way to the final match.

    Silva posted a pair of pins to reach the finals at 132 and then won by tech fall over Gavin Nischke of Huntley, 20-3. Haskins won by tech fall and by a close 6-3 decision over Hampshire’s Chris Napiorkowski to advance to the finals where he pinned Belvidere North’s Andrew Bucci in 1:53.

    Sendele got a bye in the quarterfinals at 157, then won the title with a pair of tech falls. In the finals, he won 21-6 over Huntley’s Radic Dvorak.

    Diemel also dominated, with pins in the semifinals and finals at 164. In the title match, He pinned Daniel Mendez of Algonquin Jacobs in 2:15.

    Kurt Smith had a pair of pins to reach the finals at 175 and then posted a 15-7 major decision over Hampshire’s Aidan Rowells. Isaak Smith pinned his way into the finals and then defeated Zander Martinez of Belvidere North, 8-1.

    Olson pinned Guilford’s Josh Seagren to reach the finals where he lost 11-4 to Algonquin Jacobs’ Ben Arbotante. Aranki won a 5-1 decision over Gavin Warner of Harlem to reach the finals at 144, then lost to Huntley’s Vlad Maluhin 7-1.

    Musil fell to Belvidere North’s Bryson Teunissen in the semifinals, but won a consolation match to reach the third-place match where he posted a 6-4 decision over Matthew Muller of Hampshire.

    Darling lost a semifinal match at 138, but bounced back to win a tech fall and then an 11-3 major decision over Ethan Hagerman of Harlem.
