    Hononegah boys track and field has strong opening performance

    ROCKTON — The Hononegah boys track and field team started the season off on the right foot with a strong performance at its own indoor meet held Saturday at the campus fieldhouse.

    The Indians’ relay teams got off and running quickly with a trio of first-place finishes. The 4x200 relay of Matthew Mahan, Mitchell Meichtry, Ben Klink and Anthony Otero crossed first with a time of 1:36.78. The 4x400 team of Otero, Coen Lee, Will Wade and Sam Hagg (3:42.42) and 4x800 squad of Camden Juno, Nicolo Altamore, Landon Samuelson and Alex Bartch (8:27.12) also earned wins on their home course.

    Lee was the only individual who won an event as he finished first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.93).

    Ben Klink earned second in the long jump (6.24 meters) as did the 4x200 relay of Calvin Clowes, Chase Cutler, Ryan Fritsch and Lee (1:37.28).

    Cristian Lobato ran a 23.89 in the 200 meters to finish third while Fritsch grabbed fourth in the triple jump (37-5.00).

    Fifth-place finishes included Sam Haag in the 400 (55.80), Nicolo Altamore in the 1600 (4:41.04), Fritsch in the 60 hurdles (9.75), Jacob Benson in the shot put (14.42) and Greysen Merrill in the triple jump (37-3.00).

    Lobato continued his solid day with a 10th in the 60 dash (7.44) and a sixth in the high jump (5-6.00).

    Nine teams competed in the meet, including NIC-10 squads Harlem and Guildford, with well over 200 athletes competing.

    • HUNTLEY GIRLS INVITE: The Indians scored 27 points and took fifth at their opening meet, where the hosting Red Raiders won with 132 points and Guilford was second with 62.

    Kali Schleis had the highest finish for Hononegah as she placed second in the long jump with a distance of exactly five meters.

    Amelia Bronnimann finished third in the pole vault (2.73) and teammate Emma Krenz was closely behind in fourth (2.58).

    Sophia Hedges placed fourth in the 60 dash (8.09) and Lauren Frake took fifth in the 400 (1:05.76).

    The 4x200 relay team of Schleis, Emerson Czizek, Ashlyn Richter and Frake ended fourth (1:54.59).
