ROCKFORD, Ill. — NIC-10 champion Hononegah opened IHSA 4A regional girls basketball Tuesday night against lowly Rockford East with predictable results.

The Indians (28-4) hammered the E-Rabs 79-20 at Rockford Auburn. Hononegah will now face the winner between Rockford Jefferson and Auburn on the Knights’ court on Thursday night at 7.

The E-Rabs had no answer for Hononegah sophomore Jordan Dimke, who dropped in 24 points in three quarters of action.

Hononegah’s Allyson Niedfeldt added 14 points and Brooklyn Klabacha had 11 — all in the second half.

The Indians jumped out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and hiked it to 43-11 by halftime.

    • UNION GROVE 84, BELOIT MEMORIAL 67: The Purple Knights gave the Southern Lakes Conference-leading Broncos a run for their money for a good portion of Monday night.

But Union Grove proved why it has remained undefeated in conference play this season as it pulled away for the win at Barkin Arena.

Beloit (8-11, 5-6 SLC) kept the Broncos (18-5, 13-0) close through halftime, where Union Grove led just 33-26. But junior Sammie Hafferkamp scored 23 of her 35 points in the second half to help the Broncos outscore the Knights 51-41.

Ashley Lamers added 24 points for Union Grove while Kamille Thomas paced Beloit with 21 points.

The Knights will again face the Broncos in the regular season finale on Thursday at 7 p.m.
