    Hononegah falls to St. Charles East in IHSA Dual Team State Tournament

    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Hononegah’s tremendous wrestling season ended on Friday with a 40-29 quarterfinal loss to No. 1-ranked St. Charles East in the IHSA 3A Dual Team State Tournament.

    Winning matches for NIC-10 champion Hononegah on Friday night were Rocco and Bruno Cassioppi, Jackson Olson, Brody Sendele, Caleb Lynde and Isaak Smith.

    Rocco Cassioppi pinned Kaden Potter at 106 in 2 minutes. Hononegah forfeited at 113, but Rocco’s brother Bruno pinned Liam Aye in 58 seconds at 120.

    Olson posted an 8-3 decision over Gavin Woodmancy at 126, but St. Charles East’s Payton Lee pinned Robert Darling at 132 in 33 seconds. St. Charles East also won at 138, 144 and 150. Ben Davino pinned Thomas Silva in 4:39 at 138. Max Aranki was pinned by Jayden Colon in 1:05 at 144 and Max Haskins lost by a 12-2 major decision to Gavin Connolly at 150.

    Hononegah’s Sendele posted an 18-3 tech fall over Ryan McGovern at 157. St. Charles East’s Anthony Gutierrez pinned Connor Diemel at 165 in 2:23 and Brody Murray decisioned Hononegah’s Kurt Smith 7-2 at 175.

    Hononegah’s Lynde picked up a forfeit at 190. St. Charles East’s Christian Wilson decisioned Greyson Cotone 6-0 at 215. Isaak Smith of Hononegah posted a 10-4 decision over Brandon Swartz at 285.

    On Saturday, St. Charles East was upset by Chicago Mt. Carmel 35-30, but rebounded to defeat Libertyville 37-22 to take third place.
