    Hononegah grad Jordan King named to All-BIG EAST Second Team

    Hononegah graduate Jordan King and two other members of the Marquette University women’s basketball team earned All-BIG EAST honors, the conference office announced Thursday morning in New York.

    Liza Karlen was named to the First Team while King was named to the Second Team. Mackenzie Hare earned Honorable Mention.

    Karlen was an unanimous selection, averaging career highs in points (18 ppg) and rebounds (7.3), ranking fourth and seventh in the conference, respectively. The senior forward scored in double figures in 28-of-29 games.

    King averaged 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game during her fifth-year with the Golden Eagles. She is the conference’s active career scoring leader. King scored in double figures in 24-of-29 games and had a 29-point outing against Appalachian State on Dec. 21, one point off her career high.

    King has started in all 153 career games at Marquette and will finish in the top five in program history in points (1,785) and top three in assists (590).

    The Golden Eagles begin postseason play this weekend against Villanova on Saturday afternoon in the BIG EAST Tournament. Tipoff from Mohegan Sun Arena is at 1:30 p.m. CT.

    The BIG EAST Player of the Year is junior guard Paige Bueckers of UConn. The Huskies also had the Freshman of the Year, Ashlynn Shade, and the Coach of the Year in Geno Auriemma.

    BIG EAST Co-Defensive Players of the year are junior forward Christina Dalce of Villanova and senior guard Kelsey Ransom of Georgetown. Villanova junior guard Lucy Olsen earned Most Improved Player, Georgetown junior forward Brianna Scott earned Sixth-Woman Award and Georgetown grad student forward Graceann Bennett earned the Sportsmanship Award.
