ROCKTON—Before a healthy dousing of rain moved into the area Monday and canceled a slew of prep games around the Stateline, the Hononegah baseball team got its bats going in an 11 a.m. showdown against Barrington.

Unfortunately, the Broncos’ hitters were wide awake as well as the Indians fell 11-9 in non-conference action.

Hononegah got on the board when Bryce Ewing doubled to lead off the bottom of the first and Austin Dresser singled him home. Barrington built a 4-1 lead before the Indians moved within a run in the fourth when Jakob DeLo doubled and later scored on a pickoff error while Ewing singled in Logan Edward.

Barrington answered with a run in the fifth and Easton Stewart moved it to 5-4 with his run-scoring double. But a four-run sixth from the Broncos (4-0-1) helped put the Indians (3-1-1) in an 11-4 hole going into the bottom of the seventh.

Hononegah scored three runs off walks in the final frame and another off an error while Logan Edward smacked a one-run single, but the rally ultimately fell short.

Dresser went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while Edward and Ewing both had two hits but Hononegah was outhit 17-11. The Indians used five different pitchers with Stewart making the start and going 3 2-3 innings and allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
