ROSCOE, Ill. — Starter Aislynn Palmer and reliever Irelyn O’Brien allowed only an infield single as they pitched a 5-0 shutout against Rockford Jefferson and boosted Hononegah’s overall record to 5-1 and NIC-10 mark to 2-0.

The only hit off the pair was an infield single by the J-Hawks’ Hailee Goodall in the first inning at Swanson Park. Palmer allowed the one hit in four innings of work, walking no one and striking out 10. O’Brien worked the final three innings and allowed one walk with four strikeouts.

The Indians didn’t exactly tear it up offensively, either, managing only three hits off Jefferson’s Addison Smith. She walked two and fanned 10.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when catcher Danielle Franz led off with a triple and courtesy runner Mackenzie Haas scored on a wild pitch.

Addison Huburt made it 2-0 in the third with a long home run to left. The Indians tacked on a run in the fifth when Peyton Klikno reached on an error, stole second and came all the way around to score when Mali McMaster put down a sacrifice bunt.

Hononegah’s final runs scored when Zoey Calhoun walked and Natalie Kinney’s single to right became a three-base error on the right fielder.

    • BELOIT TURNER 13, EVANSVILLE 0: The Trojans moved their Rock Valley Conference Rock matchup against the Blue Devils up a day to Wednesday evening in order to beat out the rain showers.

It worked with stellar results as Turner smacked 13 hits and beat Evansville 13-0 at the YMCA Youth Sports Complex.

Kamdyn Davis singled, stole second, moved to third on Sammi Schleis’ groundout before scoring on Maddy Hoenig’s single to center to get the onslaught started. Kamryn Clark added a one-run double in the three-run first. Beloit (3-1, 1-1 Rock Valley Rock) scored one run in the second and a pair in the third before unleashing seven in the fourth to put the mercy rule into effect.

Davis, who went 3-for-4, and Schleis, who had two hits, smacked back-to-back two-run doubles in the fourth while Emma Bue added a one-run single. Bue and Kennedy Crall each had two hits.

Maddyn Saunders, who had a two-run single in the third, got the win from the mound as she allowed five hits and four walks but allowed no runs and struck out five Blue Devils (1-4, 0-2).

    • NORTH BOONE 3, GENOA-KINGSTON 1: The Vikings secured some timely hits and got a strong outing from pitcher Cami Carter in a close BNC win over the Cogs.

Carter blasted a two-run homer in the first and later hit in Lauren Stefek, who had doubled, on an error. The senior allowed just four hits and one unearned run with six strikeouts.

Genoa-Kingston (6-4, 1-2) limited hosting North Boone (9-2, 3-0) to just two hits and smacked three-straight one-out singles before scoring a run in the seventh off a two-out error before Carter got a line out to end the game.

    • BASEBALL: ROCK FALLS 5, NORTH BOONE 4: The Rockets (4-6, 2-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and survived a vicious rally from the Vikings to earn a Big Northern Conference win on Wednesday.

Gage Vermett had a two-run single in the fourth and cut the lead to 5-4 with his one-run single in the sixth, but visiting North Boone (11-4, 2-1) stranded two runners in the final frame.

Owen Meredith struggled in two innings as he allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits. Vermett came on in relief and didn’t allow a run over four three-hit innings with four strikeouts.
