    PREP SOFTBALL: Hononegah goes 4-0 over weekend

    Hononegah’s softball team swept three games in the Antioch Invitational on Saturday to run its win-streak to eight games and its overall record to 9-1.

    The Indians improved to 3-0 in NIC-10 play Friday by flattening host Rockford East 12-0 in five innings. Kaelyn Kelly was 4-for-4 for the Indians, who played primarily reserves after the first inning. Alexandra Huber, Addison Hulburt and Emma Tapia were all 2–for-2 in a 14-hit attack.

    Hononegah used four pitchers with Sam Nosbisch going two innings and striking out four to pick up the win.

    Saturday, Kelly was back at it in the first game at Antioch, as Hononegah downed Richmond-Burton 5-2. She was 3-for-3. Winning pitcher Aislynn Palmer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Danielle Franz drove in three runs. Palmer went 5 2-3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs. She struck out six. Tapia pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings.

    Zoey Calhoun started against McHenry and picked up a complete-game 6-2 win as she allowed three hits and two runs, striking out three. The Indians had 10 hits with Natalie Kinney and McKenzie Haas collecting two apiece.

    Hononegah finished up with an 11-0 victory over Algonquin Jacobs that included a 14-hit attack and four home runs. Franz led the Indians going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and two RBIs. Tapia, Palmer and Addison Hulburt also smacked homers and each collected two hits.

    The Indians used three pitchers, who combined on a four-hitter. Irelyn O’Brien tossed three innings with five strikeouts. Sam Nosbisch and Stella Leopold each threw two scoreless innings.

    • BRODHEAD 15, DELAVAN-DARIEN 0: Brodhead’s softball team cruised to its sixth straight victory without a loss on Friday, routing Delavan-Darien in a Rock Valley Conference game that went just four innings due to the mercy rule.

    Winning pitcher Sophia Leitzen did not allow a hit with no walks and struck out eight batters.

    Leitzen also led the Cardinals’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a triple in the first inning, a double in the second and a single in the fourth inning.

    The Cardinals blew the game open with a nine-run second. They finished with 10 hits and five bases on balls. Allie Dahl and Jerrica Schwartz each had two hits and two runs scored.

    • BIG FOOT 6, WHITEWATER 4: Holly Kynell drove in the game-winning run with a single in the seventh inning and also pitched a complete game 4-hitter allowing four runs, but only two earned. She walked three and fanned seven.

    Lily Wolf was 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs. Kate Hummel was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
