ROCKFORD—The Hononegah baseball team racked up 21 hits and threw four no-hit innings to beat Rockford Auburn 18-1 in NIC-10 action on Tuesday.

Hononegah scored 12 runs in the first and five in the third on its way to winning via the mercy rule.

Austin Dresser, Ian Blankenship, Nicholas Santis, Evan Sayles and Cameron Nelson all had two hits for the Indians, who had 11 different batters record a hit. Santis had three RBI while Sayles, Nelson and Bryce Ewing all had two.

Santis threw three innings and allowed one earned run with a walk and six strikeouts. Adrian Lucas threw the final inning and struck out the side.

    • NORTH BOONE 16, ROCKFORD CHRISTIAN 2: The Vikings held a comfortable 4-1 lead over the Royal Lions when they decided that they wanted to exert a little bit of dominance over their Big Northern Conference opponent.

North Boone poured on four runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth to put an early end to Tuesday’s contest as it cruised to a big win over Rockford Christian (3-16, 1-2 BNC) in six innings.

Matt Self smacked a three-run double in the fifth to get the late scoring frenzy started. Owen Meredith added on with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Brayden Sunden made it 8-1.

RBI singles by Grady Condon and Chris Doetch in the sixth helped put North Boone (17-8, 8-5) up by 15 runs.

Condon finished 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI while Doetch had three hits. Sunden and Gage Vermett each added two hits.

Self earned the win from the mound as he allowed two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in five innings. Ben Neri struck out two in a perfect sixth.

    • SOUTH BELOIT 2, EARLVILLE 1: Reece Binder took one for the team and was whacked by a pitch with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the ninth to send the SoBos home a slim win over the Red Raiders.

Andrew Kaehler singled to get the extra frame started and, after a fly out, Richard Carlson doubled to center. Jonah Martinez was intentionally walked to make the bags full and set up the winning at-bat.

Kahler drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth to break the scoreless tie before Earlville (2-8) scored on one of the SoBos’ five errors in the seventh to force extra innings.

Hosting South Beloit (4-11) outhit the Red Raiders 5-2 as Carlson went 2-for-4 with a double and JT Sanders smacked a two-bagger of his own.

Carlson threw the first seven innings and struck out a whopping 18 batters while allowing just one hit and one unearned run. Sanders threw the final two frames and allowed just a hit and walk while striking out two.

    • SOFTBALL: EARLVILLE 8, SOUTH BELOIT 7: The Red Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie it at six and force extra innings and then poured on two in the eighth to steal a win over the SoBos.

South Beloit (7-7) had jumped back ahead in the eighth with Whitney Schnack’s solo homer that led off the inning. But an RBI double by Earlville tied it back up at seven before the Red Raiders walked it off with a one-run single.

Zorah Martin went 4-for-5 with a double in the leadoff spot and Jasmine Fago also smacked four hits as South Beloit racked up 17 hits. Schnack, Lineman, Taniyah Crawford and Shelby Ambrose all had two hits.

HONONEGAH 6, ROCKFORD GUILFORD 2: Hononegah’s offense spun its wheels after the third inning, but fortunately had already given starting pitcher Aislynn Palmer more than she needed.

The visiting Indians led 6-0 after scoring five times in the third inning and Palmer allowed only single runs to the Vikings in the fourth and fifth. She scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out 10.

Hononegah scored a run in the second when Peyton Klikno was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a double by Addison Hulburt.

In the third, Palmer walked, Danielle Franz singled and Natalie Kinney walked to load the bases. A strikeout later, Klikno singled for an RBI with another run scoring on an error. Mackenzie Haas doubled to left to score two more runs. Kaelyn Kelly made it 6-0 with an RBI single.

Kelly was 2-for-4 to lead the Indians’ eight-hit attack. Hononegah improved to 10-0 in NIC-10 play, 16-1 overall and won their 15 straight game.

NORTH BOONE 15, BYRON 1: Lauren Stefek was 4-for-4 with three doubles to lead a 15-hit attack and Camdyn Hall and Cami Carter combined on a five-inning no-hitter.

The Vikings put up seven runs in the first inning, one in the second, three in the fourth and fourth in the fifth to end the game early by the mercy rule.
