    Hononegah finishes third in Northern Illinois Invitational

    BELOIT — Hononegah picked up a pair of first-place finishes on its way to taking third place in the Northern Illinois Invitational on Friday at Beloit College’s Strong Stadium.

    Hononegah’s Landon Samuelson finished first in the 3200 meters in 9:57.71 and Jacob Benson won the shot put with a toss of 15.32 meters (50-feet, 3.25 inches).

    The Indians also picked up four second places, starting in the 3200 from Bryce Mohnacky (10:11.18).

    Hononegah’s Ben Toole was second in the 1600-meter Bannister event in a PR 4:56.67, trailing only James Callagher of Harlem (4:54.95) and Coen Lee was runnerup with a 15.24 in the 110 high hurdles, behind only Rolling Meadows’ Noah Heiber (14.51).

    The Indians’ 4x800 team of Anthony Otero, Alex Bartch, Nicolo Altamore and Camden Juno finished second in 8:10.44, behind Prairie Ridge (8:05.14).

    Coen finished third in the 300 hurdles (40.36).

    The Indians’ 4x100 relay team (44.17) and 4x400 team (3:33.42) both finished fourth.

    Cristian Lobato finished fifth with a personal-best 52.41 in the 400. Alex Bartch was fifth in the 1600 (4:42.76) and Jake McLarty was fifth in the pole vault (3.86 meters, 12-08).

    Beloit Memorial’s Jaedyn Coleman finished third in the shot put with a personal-best effort of 14.39 meters (47-2.50). Trey Beasley was sixth in the high jump (1.70 meters).

    Sycamore won the team title with 127 points, followed by Belvidere North (113), Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge (57), Rolling Meadows (44), Sterling (34), Monona Grove (29), Harlem (27), Rochelle (26), Boylan (14), Crystal Lake South (12), Beloit Memorial (7) and Freeport (2).

    Hononegah and Beloit both had some stellar efforts in the frosh-soph meet. Hononegah’s Gavin Brady won the 100 (11.50), Calvin Clowes won the 200 (23.41) and high jump (5-07), Chase Cutler won the 400 (51.74), Logan Wilson won the 300 hurdles (42.67) and Cole Cooper won the pole vault. Beloit’s Caiden Price was fifth in the 400 (56.59).
