CHARLESTON, Ill. — Hononegah’s contingent of IHSA 3A State Track & Field qualifiers was whittled down to one on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.

Sophomore Jordan Dimke was the lone Indian to reach the finals, facing a familiar foe for the championship in the high jump. Dimke and Rockford Guilford sophomore Zariah Burnett both finished with an effort of 1.72 meters (5-foot-7 and 3-4 inches).

Burnett reached 1.72 on her second try while Dimke got hers on her third attempt, giving Burnett the title and Dimke second place. That was an improvement on the fifth-place at state she reached a year ago.

Dimke finished 34th out of 43 competitors in the 300 hurdles (48.06 seconds). She also competed on two state-qualifying relays that posted better times than they had at the Huntley Sectional, but not good enough to advance to the finals.

The 4x400 team of Dimke, Sophia Hedges, Lauren Frake and Kylie Simpson were 17th out of 34 teams at state. The Indians quartet finished in 4:01.03, slightly better than the 4:01.47 they won with in Huntley.

Dimke, Simpson, Drake and Ally Niedfeldt finished 22nd out of 35 teams in the 4x800 relay at state. They were clocked in 9:34.33, an improvement over the 9:38.81 they clocked at Huntley.

Hedges was 29th out of 38 long jumpers (5.07m, 16-7.75). Teammate Kali Scheis was 34th (4.86).

Hononegah pole vaulter Amelia Bronnimann also didn’t reach the finals.
