    PREPS: Hononegah, North Boone boys track and field athletes compete at state

    CHARLESTON, Ill. — A strong season for Hononegah hurdler Coen Lee ended at the IHSA 3A Boys State Track and Field championships in Charleston, Ill. on Friday afternoon.

    Lee didn’t advance to the finals after he ran a time of 15.31 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries to place 28th and finished 44th in the 300 hurdles prelims after crossing the finish line in 42.13 seconds.

    The Indians’ 4x400 relay of Anthony Otero, Sam Hagg, Gavin Brady and Cristian Lobato also competed on Eastern Illinois’s campus but couldn’t make it out of prelims after placing 31st (3:27.88).

    In the IHSA 2A boys state meet, North Boone’s 4x100 relay of Maximillano Cervantes, Connor McKibben, Collin McKibben and Azriel Dixon didn’t advance to the finals after finishing 26th with a time of 43.84 seconds.

    • BOYS VOLLEYBALL: HONONEGAH 2, GENEVA 1: The Indians advanced to their third-straight IHSA sectional championship game by edging the Vikings 25-21, 20-25, 29-27 during Saturday’s semifinal at Larkin High School in Elgin.

    Hononegah had won its fourth-consecutive regional championship against Streamwood on Thursday in a thrilling three sets 25-21, 23-25, 35-33.

    Sophomore Jack Allen paced Hononegah with 12 kills against Geneva. Carter Freedlund added eight in addition to his three total blocks.

    Will Dennison had seven kills and three blocks while Alex Alberstett recorded three block, as well. Junior Noah Duer had 18 digs while Freedlund had 11 and setter Owen Rollinson had 32 assists.

    The Indians will face St. Francis out of Wheaton on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the championship.
