Otter Tennis Team Records 2 Wins at Moorhead Triangular
The Fergus Falls girls' tennis team traveled to Moorhead on Friday for a triangular which also included Morris. The Otters earned 6-1 victories against both squads. First up for the Otters was Moorhead. Moorhead is always a fun rival match-up for us. Our girls did a great job throughout the lineup of taking care of business, only dropping one match. We really outmatched them in doubles, dropping a total of five games in all three doubles matches. Our singles players did a nice job as well with three fairly routine wins, while Moorhead came away with the 4th singles victory. Our highlight match against Moorhead was at first singles where Ruby Ellison came up against Madison Anderson. Both girls are noted as top players in our section so we expected a good match up. Ruby did a great job of handling Madison's impressive serve and forehand and she showed grit out there, sticking in points and taking advantage of offensive opportunities when they arose. She played smart tennis and it paid off as she earned the first set 6-4. Ruby kept her foot on the accelerator in the second set, dropping just one game in a straight set victory. This was a big win for Ruby in that first singles slot and is hopefully a confidence boost for her moving forward. It's hard to look ahead to post-season in the second week of tennis, but this match was a big win for Ruby when it comes to seeding and post-season play.
