Iowa National Guard unit will return 150 soldiers back from Middle East deployment
On Friday, the Des Moines Airbase hosted a special “welcome home” ceremony for a group of National Guard soldiers returning from a year-long deployment in the Middle East. The federal government activated the 831st Engineer Vertical Construction Company (EVCC) to support U.S. Central Command in a territory encompassing 27 countries. (Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds today announced the approval of Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union Counties for FEMA Public Assistance under the previously approved Major Disaster Declaration for Iowa counties where significant damage was sustained from severe storms and tornadoes that occurred April 26-27, 2024, and continuing.
