ROCKY MOUNT, NC (WNCT) — A man was arrested and charged with multiple gun-related crimes after a traffic stop on E. Raleigh Blvd. in Rocky Mount Friday.

As an Edgecombe County deputy approached the driver of a vehicle, he heard a metal object hit the ground and saw that it was a handgun. The driver, Jequan Kimble, 29, then ran away from law enforcement.

The deputy picked up the gun and found there to be two small children younger than five years old in the backseat. Kimble was seen running in the area after a K-9 search.

    Kimble was charged with:

    • Possession of a gun by a felon
    • Carrying a concealed weapon
    • Two counts of child abuse
    • Littering
    • Driving while license revoked
    • Driving with an expired registration
    • Resisting a public officer
    • Impeding traffic

Kimble was jailed without bond due to other pending charges from Wilson County. The children were evaluated by EMS workers and then released.
