    SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Dickinson, Beckham the difference in Ladybirds' win

    In a pitcher’s duel where hits were at a premium, Anna Dickinson and Carlee Beckham proved to be the difference as Southern Nash got past Roanoke Rapids 2-0 in a Big East 2A/3A Conference softball game on Tuesday night in Bailey.

    Dickinson pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout with 17 strikeouts and Beckham drove in both runs as the Ladybird improved to 7-0 in the conference and 12-0 overall.

    Southern Nash scratched out a run in the bottom of the first inning when Beckham’s RBI groundout plated Dickinson to make it 1-0.

    The game was a pitchers’ duel between Dickinson and Roanoke Rapids’ right-hander Kalissa Williams and stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth frame, when Beckham unloaded a leadoff home run to give the Ladybirds an insurance run and make it 2-0.

    Dickinson and Kaylee Love added hits for Southern Nash.

    Roanoke Rapids dropped to 4-2 in conference play and 7-2 overall.

    Wayne Christian 8, RMA 1

    Rocky Mount Academy (6-2) had trouble keeping up with Wayne Christian (9-2) in an 8-1 loss on Tuesday.

    The Eagles opened the scoring in the first after Ellen Feagans singled home a run.

    Wayne Christian captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the fifth when Leia Mokus singled in one run, Millie Fox singled in a run and an error plated two runs.

    Riley Sutton earned the win for Wayne Christian on the mound. She allowed four hits and one run over seven innings with nine strikeouts and two walks.

    Berkeley Miller took the loss for Rocky Mount Academy. She went seven innings, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Feagans went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles.

    Wayne Christian turned one double play in the game and was sure-handed in the field by not committing a single error.

    SWE 12, Rocky Mount 0

    SouthWest Edgecombe evened its overall record at 6-6 with a nonconference victory on the road at Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

    Mackenzie Rogers pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the Cougars. She threw just 61 pitches and finished with 10 strikeouts and no walks with one hit batter (Lexani Limon).

    Mackenzie Moore led SWE at the plate with a 4-for-4 showing which included two doubles and two RBI, while Rogers and Ramzie Bryant (triple) each provided two hits and an RBI.

    Collecting one hit each for the Cougars were Mckenlee Mobley (double, three RBI), Kayle Ellis, Carlyn Hodge and Alana Carroll (double, three RBI).

    SouthWest scored three runs in the second and fourth innings, added two runs in the third frame and capped off the win with four runs in the fifth.

    Rocky Mount fell to 0-13 overall.

    Bunn 18, Northern Nash 8

    Northern Nash built an 8-4 lead but Bunn rallied with six runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to defeat the error-plagued Knights in a Big East 2A/3A Conference game in Red Oak on Tuesday night.

    Northern Nash, which made seven errors, fell to 1-6 in the conference and 3-8 overall.

    Kailey Burden (RBI), Emily Clay (double, RBI) and Lara Sigers had two hits each for Northern Nash. Piper Jones and Emma Hunt (double, two RBI) added one hit each.

    Jones and Chadlar Wood combined to pitch five innings on the mound for the Knights. They surrendered 18 hits and 18 runs (15 earned runs with six walks and one strikeout.

    Nash Central 16 Franklinton 1

    The Lady Bulldogs rolled past the Red Rams in a Big East 2A/3A Conference game on the road Tuesday night and emerged 5-2 in the league and 8-3 overall.

    Nash Central finished with 13 hits and collected 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull away.

    The Red Rams had just two hits.

    Harrells 9, FCS 8 (10)

    Faith Christian School suffered a heartbreaking loss in Carolina Independent Conference play on Tuesday as Harrells Christian (1-2, 4-7) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie it, then scored the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th.

    The Patriots (1-1 CIC, 7-2 overall) trailed 6-0 after three frames but rallied with eight runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead.

    Each team committed five errors. Harrells outhit Faith 10-9.

    Tynleigh Hinton (two RBI) and Payton Whitley (RBI) led the Patriots with two hits. Contributing one hit each were Lizzie Camp (RBI), Abby Vann (RBI), Kate Camp (double, RBI), Peyton Hagans (RBI) and Kathryn Keeter (RBI).

    Whitley suffered the loss on the mound for Faith. She allowed 10 hits and nine runs (two earned) with five walks and three strikeouts.

    Perquimans 18, Tarboro 0

    Tarboro dropped to 0-5 in the Four Rivers 1A Conference and 0-8 overall after Perquimans (5-0 league, 11-3 overall) scored 11 runs in the first frame and seven in the second inning.

    The Vikings garnered no hits in three innings.

    Gates 16, NECP 2

    The North East Carolina Prep softball team remained winless (0-4) in Four Rivers 1A Conference play and dropped to 2-9 overall after a league defeat to the Red Barons at Indian Lake Sports Complex in Tarboro on Tuesday night.

    Natalie Bunting (RBI), Katelyn Knox and Shannon Jeffreys had hits for the Huskies.
