    BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Four-run frames help Knights defeat Bulldogs

    A pair of four-run innings helped Northern Nash defeat Nash Central in a Big East 2A/3A Conference baseball game on Tuesday night in Red Oak.

    The Knights improved to 6-3 in the conference and 9-7 overall, while the Bulldogs fell to 6-5 in the league and 8-9 overall.

    Camden Posey had two hits for Nash Central while Shea Whitley and Landyn Holt added the other hits. The Bulldogs scored their only run in the sixth inning.

    Roanoke Rapids 10 Rocky Mount 4

    The Gryphons dropped to 0-9 in the Big East 2A/3A Conference and 0-14 overall after a league loss to the Yellow Jackets at home on Tuesday.

    Roanoke Rapids improved to 7-2 in conference play and 12-3 overall.

    Bunn 3, Southern Nash 2

    The Firebirds fell to 4-5 in the Big East 2A/3A Conference and 8-11 overall after Bunn rallied for the conference victory at home on Tuesday night.

    Blake Strickland homered and was one of four Southern Nash players with a hit. The others were Isaiah Battle (RBI), Landon Brown and Jeremiah Battle (double).

    Strickland took the loss on the mound for the Firebirds. He went six innings and gave up seven hits and three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and no walks.

    SN made five errors defensively.

    Bunn (6-3 conference, 11-6 overall) trailed 1-0 after Strickland’s homer in the top of the first inning but scored the tying run in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth. The Firebirds tried to rally with a run in the top of the seventh but came up short.

    Harrells 5, RMA 1

    Harrells Christian Academy handed Rocky Mount Academy its first Carolina Independent Conference loss with a road win against the Eagles (5-1 CIC, 8-4 overall) on Tuesday.

    RMA had five hits in the contest: Gehrig Miller, Owen Lewis, Parker Sherrod, Seth Tickel (RBI) and Donaven Wright.

    Sherrod went five innings on the mound for RMA. He gave up three hits and four runs (all earned) with eight strikeouts and five walks. Luke Holloman worked two frames and allowed two hits and one earned run with one walk and two strikeouts.

    Harrells improved to 2-2 in the league and 6-6 overall.

    FCS 8, Halifax 6

    Faith Christian trailed early against Halifax Academy but battled back for a Carolina Independent Conference victory on the road on Tuesday.

    The Patriots improved to 3-3 in the CIC and 8-6 overall, while the Vikings fell to 0-6 in conference and 4-8 overall.

    FCS trailed 3-0 after the first inning but tied it with runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames and then collected three runs in the sixth (as did Halifax) and two more in the decisive seventh inning.

    Dylan Morgan (double, RBI) and Tanner Trevathan two RBI) had two hits each for the Patriots, while Vince Wilson (three RBI), Adam Creef (RBI) and Michael Tyler provided one hit each for the FCS offense.

    Noah Mayo went four innings on the mound for Faith Christian. He allowed four hits and three runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts and no walks. Relievers Trevathan (1.1 innings, two hits, three runs, two earned runs, one walk) and Ashton Lascallette (1.2 innings, one hit, one walk, four strikeouts) also saw action.

    Tarboro 14, NECP 0

    Tarboro improved to 3-4 in the Four Rivers 1A Conference and 8-9 overall with a shutout win at home on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium.

    Chanen Spain had the lone hit for the Huskies, who fell to 0-7 in league play and 6-9 overall.

    Tarboro scored four runs in the first and third innings and added three runs in the second and fourth frames. The Vikings collected nine hits.

    Leading Tarboro were Stephen Ribustello (double, RBI), Gabe Kassnove (double, five RBI) and Mason Satterfield (double, RBI) with two hits each. Providing one hit each were Landon Browning (double, RBI), Cole Craddock (double, two RBI) and Kip Biggs (RBI).

    Craddock went all five innings on the mound for Tarboro. He struck out 11 and walked one.

    NECP pitchers Andrew Sessoms and Seth Peele combined to surrender 14 runs (seven earned) with five strikeouts and 11 walks. The Huskies also helped Tarboro with five errors.

    SWE 2, A-G 1

    SouthWest Edgecombe slipped past Ayden-Grifton in an Eastern Plains 2A Conference game at home on Tuesday as the Cougars improved to 4-3 in the league and 9-6 overall.

    SWE had five hits against the Chargers: one each from Tyson Ayers (double), Blayde Hinton, Logan Webb (double, RBI), Chase Taylor and Parker Gay.

    The Cougars scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings and held Ayden-Grifton to a run in the sixth frame.

    Gay earned the win on the mound, as he gave up just three hits and one run over seven innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

    Warren County 27 North Edgecombe 1

    The Warriors fell to 2-4-1 in the Tar Roanoke 1A Conference and 2-8-1 overall following Tuesday’s conference loss at Warren County.

    The Eagles improved to 7-1 in the league and 7-4 overall.

    Wilson Prep 1, RMP 0

    The Jaguars fell to 5-4 in the Tar Roanoke 1A Conference and 5-5 overall with a one-run loss to the Tigers in a league game at home on Tuesday.

    Wilson Prep improved to 5-0 in the TRC and 6-2 overall.
