    SOCCER ROUNDUP: RMA rallies, seals CIC season crown

    Rocky Mount Academy’s girls soccer team clinched the Carolina Independent Conference’s regular-season championship with a 7-4 win over Fayetteville Academy on Thursday night at home.

    The Eagles moved to 14-0 on the season with what coach Eric Gutshall called “a terrific performance” in the comeback victory.

    Falling behind 1-0 early, the Eagles stormed back with four goals to take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

    Taylor Carmichael led the scoring with three goals on several tremendous shots and also dished out an assist.

    Isabella Daza controlled the midfield, assisting on two goals while scoring two of her own.

    Millar Berry was relentless on the wing scoring a goal and assisting on one as well as setting up numerous attacks.

    Hannah Garris had a terrific game at striker by scoring one goal and assisting on another. Matti Achilles had the other assist and also had a great game at an outside midfielder spot, Gutshall said.

    Roanoke Rapids 4 Northern Nash 1

    Northern Nash reached the back of the net just once and suffered its first Big East 2A/3A Conference loss on the road at Roanoke Rapids on Thursday night.

    The Knights fell to 7-1 in conference and 11-4 overall while the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-2 in league play and 10-2-1 overall with their sixth straight victory as the conference race just got a little tighter.

    Nash Central 5 Rocky Mount 2

    Nash Central won a Nash County battle over Rocky Mount by scoring two goals in the first half and three more in the second half in a conference match on Thursday.

    The Bulldogs improved to 3-6 in the league and 8-6 overall, while the Gryphons fell to 2-6 in conference and 4-8-1 overall.

    Harrells 3, FCS 1

    Faith Christian suffered its second loss in Carolina Independent Conference play on Thursday when Harrells defeated the Patriots in a league match.

    FCS dropped to 6-2 in the CIC and 6-8 overall, while the Crusaders improved to 3-5 in conference and 7-7 overall.

    North Pitt 8, SWE 1

    North Pitt shot out of the gate with five goals in the first half and eased to an Eastern Plains 2A Conference win at home against SouthWest Edgecombe on Thursday.

    The Cougars fell to 0-5 in the EPC and 2-10 overall while the Panthers improved to 5-2 in league play and 6-8 overall.
