    NC boys earn top-five finishes in NCHSAA Class 2A Track Championships

    The Nash Central High School boys track team compiled several top-five finishes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A Track and Field Championships on Friday at Marcus T. Johnson Track/North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

    Nash Central’s top finishes came from Aaron Brown (third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200) and the 3,200-meter relay team (Jaaziah Jones, Brown, Jeremiah Jones and Trevor Rountree), which was third overall.

    Other top-five finishes for the Bulldogs were the boys’ 1,600 relay team (Jaaziah Jones, Elisha Dancy, Malachi Davis and Jeremiah Jones) and Zykee Tucker-Raynor (fifth in the triple jump).

    The Nash Central boys took sixth place in the team standings with 28 points and were only four points out of fifth place. The Lady Bulldogs placed 45th with two points.

    The top performer for SouthWest Edgecombe was A’riyana Battle, who took sixth in the long jump.

    Inclement weather forced the postponement of the Class 3A championship meet from Saturday to Monday.

    NCISAA MEET

    RMA’s Cowder,

    Roeder place third

    Tae Cowder of Rocky Mount Academy captured third place in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.49 seconds while RMA’s Audrey Roeder was third in the high jump (4-08) during the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III State Championships in Gastonia on Friday and Saturday.

    Cowder also placed sixth in the 300 hurdles at 44.23 seconds.

    Reid Gross of RMA finished sixth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:45.90 and was ninth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:00.91.

    Faith Christian’s Joshua Barbour earned fifth place in the shot put (40-02).

    RMA’s Griffen Williams took 17th in the 3,200 (11:39.06) while Faith Christian’s Tyson Holland was 20th (12:12.96).

    The RMA boys 3,200-meter relay team placed 11th (9:55.21), while Miccah Boseman took 10th in the discus (109-07).

    On the girls side, FCS’s Liliana Sisolak was 16th in the 200 (29.25) and 11th in the 400 (1:06.35) behind teammate Molly Morningstar, who was 10th with a time of 1:05.91. Morningstar was also 11th in the 800 (2:38.98).

    Sisolak also captured eighth place in the discus (68-05).

    Savannah Denton of Faith Christian placed 13th in the 100-meter hurdles (21.05).

    Charlie Crumley of RMA was 16th in the 800 (2:48.23) and 17th in the 1,600 (6:19.20).

    The RMA boys were 15th in the team standings with 12 points while Faith Christian tied for 16th with 10 points. In the girls standings, RMA was tied for 18th (six points) while FCS was 22nd (one point).
