Southern Nash High School’s softball team was rewarded for its stellar season by the coaches of the Big East 2A/3A Conference recently, as the Ladybirds landed the Pitcher of the Year in Anna Dickinson and the Coach of the Year in Scott Collie as part of the league’s all-conference selections.

Dickinson, a junior, went 15-1 with a sparkling 0.42 earned-run average (ERA) this season.

She made 18 appearances, 15 of them starts, and had 14 complete games with eight shutouts, two hitters and one perfect game for the Ladybirds.

In 100 innings pitched, Dickinson gave up only 33 hits and 15 runs (six earned) with 185 strikeouts and 35 walks. She surrendered only two extra-base hits (both doubles) over 393 batters faced.

Opponents batted .098 against Dickinson and had an on-base percentage (OBP) of just .221.

She also passed the 500-strikeout mark for her career earlier in the season and will enter her final season as a Ladybird with 558 career strikeouts.

Collie directed Southern Nash to a 22-0 regular-season record (12-0 in the Big East) while adding another regular-season crown and tournament crown to his resume. The Ladybirds scored 239 runs (10.39 per game) while allowing only 23 (one per contest).

Southern Nash posted 13 shutouts (11 in conference play) and advanced to the third round of the postseason for the first time since 2014 before suffering a 5-4 loss to Dixon.

The other special award went to Kalissa Williams of Roanoke Rapids, who was named Player of the Year. Williams batted over .500 with 26 hits and 17 RBI at the plate, and she won 13 games on the mound for the Yellow Jackets.

Southern Nash put six players on the all-conference squad, while Roanoke Rapids added four, Nash Central four, Franklinton three, Bunn two, Northern Nash two and Rocky Mount one.
