Two new department heads are joining Nash County's staff and were introduced to the Nash County Board of Commissioners at Monday's meeting.

Mary Hogan will be the new finance director, and Marian Cascone has been selected as the next Nash County tax administrator.

Nash County Director of Communications Jonathan Edwards introduced both new staffers to commissioners.

Hogan has local government finance experience, most recently serving as a supervisor of accounting services for the N.C. League of Municipalities, Edwards noted.

"Her experience also includes serving over 10 years in the role of finance director for multiple municipalities, including the city of New Bern, the town of Holly Springs, the town of Smithfield, and the city of Tybee Island, Ga,” Edwards said.

Cascone brings years of experience in public service and real estate appraisal to her new role, most recently serving as the tax administrator for Franklin County, Edwards said.

"Outside of the public sector, she has 21 years of real estate appraisal experience, including owning and operating her own appraisal business in Florida for many years," he added.

After moving to North Carolina in 2015, Cascone joined the N.C. Real Estate Appraisers Association, Edwards said.

"She served on the association's legislative committee and represented the organization at the Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council in Washington, D.C.,” Edwards said.

Nash County Manager Stacie Shatzer said she was excited to welcome both directors to Nash County's leadership team.

"Both bring valuable experience and professionalism to two critical departments, and I believe they are the right fit as our organization continues to grow," Shatzer said. "I look forward to their contributions to our leadership team, and I know they will be dedicated to serving the residents of Nash County."

Edwards said Hogan will step into the role of finance director on Monday, Aug. 12, working closely with outgoing Finance Director Donna Wood in the transition. Cascone will officially begin as tax administrator on Thursday, Aug. 15, working alongside current Tax Administrator Doris Sumner, Edwards said.

Both Sumner and Wood will complete their tenure with Nash County on Aug. 31. Wood has taken a position with N.C. Capital Management Trust and Sumner is retiring.

Hogan's annual salary will be $119,500. Cascone's annual salary will be $100,608.
