Two people are dead after what authorities described as a weekend murder-suicide, and others, including a 6-year-old, are being hospitalized, in connection with a shooting incident Sunday in the town of Sharpsburg that required multiple law enforcement agencies to respond, authorities said.

After a shooting early in the morning in the Wilson County part of Sharpsburg, a Rocky Mount man, Daquan Jones, 32, reportedly fled and later shot himself off Jamie Road in a residential area off North Halifax Road in northeastern Nash County, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Another deceased person was found inside the car Jones had been driving, the news release said.

According to the news release, Sharpsburg police officers and Wilson County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 100 block of Weaver’s Circle in the Weaver Estates mobile home park on the southeast side of the town of Sharpsburg about a report around 5 a.m. of gunshots involving multiple victims.

A male and a female were found with gunshot wounds, the news release said. Both were taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville to undergo surgeries, the news release said.

Investigators allege that Jones, a suspect in the shooting, had fled the scene and dropped off an injured child at a residence in Nash County, according to the news release. The child also had to be taken to a hospital to undergo surgery, the news release said.

Detectives learned during the course of the investigation that Jones was at the residence off Jamie Road, the news release said.

According to a news release from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 6300 block of Jamie, which is southwest of Gold Rock, to assist in locating the suspect and found the suspect’s vehicle in a driveway of a residence off Jamie.

Units approached the suspect’s vehicle, and a female was found dead in the back seat, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said in its news release.

As Nash County sheriff’s deputies approached the residence, they heard a gunshot come from inside the residence, the news release said. Deputies surrounded the residence, and a male exited a side door and said that the suspect had shot himself, the news release said.

The male was detained, and Jones’ body was found in the front bedroom of the residence, the news release said.

A probe is continuing. Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office or the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
