The North Carolina Wesleyan University womens soccer team continues to struggle offensively in the early going of the 2024 season.

The Bishops fell to 0-3 overall as Guilford earned a 4-0 shutout in a nonconference match at Scalf Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Wesleyan generated just three shots in 90 minutes, and returning junior midfielder Samantha Dell managed the only shot on goal just 51 seconds into the match.

The Quakers (2-0), on the other hand, used their quickness, strength, speed and athleticism to control the action for much of the contest. Guilford finished with 14 shots (including 12 on goal), had 13 corner kicks to none for the Bishops and recorded 12 fouls to only five for Wesleyan.

Olivia Dyjewski, a sophomore from Wake Forest, started in goal for Wesleyan and was under fire from a relentless Guilford offense for most of the match.

Dyjewski stopped several shots by the Quakers in the first 15 minutes until Naomi Campbell got one past her for a 1-0 Quakers lead at 31:09 of the first half.

Barely 90 seconds later, Dyjewski made a diving save on another shot by Campbell as Wesleyan turned it over on its side of the field.

Guilford added its second goal of the half at 38:51 from Emily Parker to extend its advantage to 2-0.

Dyjewski made two other solid saves in the final five minutes: one on a shot from Zekiah Johnson; the other off an attempt from Ashlyn Kahre.

The Quakers held a 9-2 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes.

The Bishops defense limited Guilford to five shots in the second half but two of them were successful.

The first came from Jenna Shotton at 73:12 to make it 3-0, and the final goal was from Trinity Robinson off an assist from Shotton at 83:34.

Dell finished with two shots for Wesleyan. Nicole Yagi had the other shot.

Dyjewski tallied seven saves in goal for the Bishops.

Campbell led the Quakers with five shots, all on goal, while Shotton provided three shots.

After winning the first two meetings between the teams in 2014 and 2015, Wesleyan has lost four straight to the Quakers and been outscored 11-2 in those matches.

Wesleyan travels to Georgia on Friday for a 7 p.m. match against LaGrange.
