The Southern Nash girls’ golf team split Big East 2A/3A Conference matches on Monday at Peachtree Hills in Rocky Mount.
The Ladybirds were first with a team score of 158 in the regularly-scheduled event as Alaina Bailey was the match medalist with a 52 while Audrey Jones, Makayla Weeks and Adison Bailey shot 53, Bryleigh Colbert finished with a 54 and Jenna Antil and Grace Jordan added 59s.
Southern Nash placed second to Nash Central in the completion of a rain-shortened match prior to the regular round. Jones carded a 49 to pace the Ladybirds while Weeks added a 52.
(GIRLS’ TENNIS) FCS 7, Greenfield 2Faith Christian School’s girls’ tennis team earned a nonconference victory over Greenfield in Wilson on Tuesday.
The Patriots improved to 8-7 overall behind five wins in singles and two victories in doubles.
In singles, No. 1 Molly Morningstar eased past Mattie Metts 8-1 while No. 2 Avery Clark won by the same score over Eliza Taylor. No. 4 Addison Rich (8-3 over Sophia Manavi at No. 4), Page Strickland (8-2 over Elle Barnes Boykin at No. 5) and Savannah Denton (8-0 over Abby Corbett at No. 6) accounted for the other singles triumphs.
Greenfield won at No. 3 singles when Louise Smith defeated Afton Joyner 8-0.
The Patriots won at No. 1 doubles (Morningsta and Clark 8-2 over Metts and Taylor) and No. 2 doubles (Joyner and Strickland 8-3 over Smith and Anna Ramsey Jackson).
The Knights (4-10 overall) took the No. 3 doubles match when Grace Bradley and Addison Watson got past Rich and Nora Morningstar 8-6.
(BOYS’ SOCCER) Northern Nash 9, Bunn 1The Northern Nash soccer team emerged 2-2-1 in the Big East 2A/3A Conference and 3-5-2 overall with an eighth-goal league victory over the Wildcats in Bunn on Monday afternoon.
The Knights led just 2-1 at halftime but exploded for seven second-half goals as they dropped Bunn to 2-1-1 in the conference and 4-1-2 overall.
ds Southern Nash 6, Roanoke Rapids 1The Firebirds stayed unbeaten in the Big East 2A/3A Conference (7-0) and improved to 13-0-2 overall with a league win on the road at Roanoke Rapids on Monday.
The Yellow Jackets fell to 3-3 in conference play and 6-7 overall.
SWE 1, Farmville Central 0
SouthWest Edgecombe emerged with a hard-fought, one-goal victory over the homestanding Jaguars in an Eastern Plains 2A Conference match in Farmville on Monday.
The Cougars improved to 3-3 in the EPC and 10-3-2 overall, while Farmville Central fell to 1-3 in league play and 1-3-1 overall.
