Several law enforcement agencies are investigating a vehicle fire in Rocky Top that left one person dead.

The incident happened on Friday, July 5, on Norris Freeway also known as U.S. Highway 441, and Mason Street in front of the Weigel's convenience store. According to Rocky Top Police Chief John Thomas, the call about a vehicle fire was received at 12:41 p.m.

One fatality was confirmed, but no name has been released as of Friday afternoon.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office will be assisting the Rocky Top Police Department with the investigation, Thomas said.

Rocky Top, also known as Lake City, is located in Anderson County.

By mid-afternoon Friday, a number of vehicles and officers from the various law enforcement agencies were still at the scene. Traffic was being detoured around the highway in front of the Weigel's. The Oak Ridger will update this story as more information becomes available.
