Waylon Kumpe, 18, was arrested on July 30 on aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor charges.

A probable cause affidavit said Rogers police responded to the Kum & Go at 101 West New Hope Road around 12:58 a.m. on July 30 concerning a man chasing a group of minors.

A juvenile told RPD he and a group of friends were walking through Veterans Park and decided to go to the convenience store.

He said two people went into the store while he and the others waited in the parking lot. The juvenile saw a man near an air pump get on his electric bicycle and start riding towards them screaming, according to the affidavit.

The juveniles started running from the man and saw he was holding a blue machete while chasing after them, the document said.

One told police he heard the man yell “Wait till I catch you” and “Stop running” at them.

Police made contact with a man matching the descriptions the juveniles gave and identified the man. Kumpe also had a blue machete in his backpack.

He is being held in the Benton County Jail on a $10,000 bond and has a court date set for September 9.

Back in February, Kumpe was booked into the Benton County Detention Center after he was allegedly caught stealing things from Rogers Heritage High School.

He was charged with commercial burglary, three counts of theft of property, possessing an instrument of crimes, possession of cigarettes or tobacco by minor and possession of a controlled substance.

His next court date in that case is set for April 7, 2025.
