The Rogers City Council on Jan. 23 approved a $350,000 purchase agreement for the sale of city-owned property at 14086 Northdale Blvd. to LM Ritz Properties, LLC.

On Dec. 27, 2023, the City Council heard a presentation from representatives of North Star Brewing who said they planned to submit an offer to acquire the city-owned former Hardees building at 14086 Northdale Blvd., to develop a start-up microbrewery and taproom.

Brett Angell, Rogers Community Development director, said in a memo to the council that the city’s purpose in acquiring the property in early December was “to control the future development of this corner property and seek to facilitate development of the vacant land and redevelopment of the former Hardees.”

Chris Guttormson, representing North Star, said in December that the first-time business owners plan to offer a variety of beer styles and alcohol styles he termed “fun, interesting new kinds of drinks.”

“Craft brewing has had a rapid growth in the last 10 years,” Guttormson said then. “People are looking for more than just beer.”

No food will be prepared inside the building, he said. “We are looking to use food trucks,” Guttormson said, adding that the plan is to partner with local businesses and restaurants.

He said the Rogers location would be the first microbrewery in a 10-mile radius.

At a closed session on Jan. 9, the council discussed the proposed offer for sale of the building, contingent on the buyer obtaining a federal brewing license.

The company’s plans include installation of a new patio, façade improvement, and “the likely gutting of most of the inside of the building,” Angell’s memo said. He added that the business plans to be open to the public this summer.

“The draft of the new plat has been completed and will begin county review in the very near future,” Angell’s memo said, adding that the vacant land directly to the west of the property “is being actively marketed for sale on relevant commercial real estate sites.”
