The Rogers City Council on March 12 approved a $300,000 purchase agreement for the acquisition of 12708 Main Street.

Brett Angell, Rogers Community Development director, said the city was approached by the estate of the late owner of the property, indicating an interest in selling it.

“The city has previously expressed interest in acquiring this property,” Angell said, adding that the site includes a single-family home built in 1964.

“Adjacent to the subject property on the north and east sides is Lions Central Park,” Angell said, adding that the structures on the property would be demolished and the property would be incorporated into the park.

The city already owns the adjacent home to the south, which also is intended to be incorporated into the park, according to Angell.

City officials anticipate that the property will be used for training for the Fire Department and/or Police Department, Angell said. “If feasible, the Fire Department may use the property for a training burn directly prior to demolition,” he said.

With the proposed acquisition, there would be only one privately owned residence remaining on that block and directly adjacent to the park, Angell said.
