    Rec League Notes: It's Christmas in July at Rogersville City Park

    ROGERSVILLE — It’s Christmas in July for the last movie night of the summer at Rogersville City Park on Saturday, July 20. The featured movie will be the holiday favorite, “Elf!”

    The Summer of Fun event is free. However, community members are invited to bring a new toy or game to be donated to Sheldon Livesay and Of One Accord Ministry’s Christmas Toy Drive, which benefits and brightens the holidays for local children in need.

    Show time is 8 p.m. Concessions will be available. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

    Pickleball tournament set for July 27

    Next up on the Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer of Fun sports schedule is a pickleball tournament, scheduled for July 27, at Rogersville City Park. There’ll be an open division and a senior division.

    Moonlight swims are every Friday from 8-11 p.m. through Aug. 2 at the Rogersville City Pool. Admission is $5 per person (for all ages) at the gate. No advance registration is required.

    Aquafit class is every Saturday at 10 a.m. and every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Rogersville City Pool. The cost is $5 per class, payable at the door. No advance registration is required.

    Yoga in the Park at Crockett Spring is every Saturday through Aug. 3 from 10-11 a.m. The fee is $5 per class. Bring a mat. No advance registration is required.

    ROGERSVILLE — July is Parks and Recreation Month. To celebrate, the Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department is inviting local residents to show off their photography skills at its parks for a chance to win some cool prizes.

    Anyone interested in entering should plan to submit two photographs — one from each of two categories: A park landscape, playground or structure that inspires you and a photograph of a person or animal in action in the park. Eligible parks are Rogersville City Park, Swift Mini Park and Crockett Spring Park.

    Registration open for fall leagues in Kingsport

    KINGSPORT — Kingsport Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for its fall youth baseball and softball leagues.

    Registration for T-ball (5-6), coach-pitch softball (7-8) and machine-pitch baseball (9-10) runs through July 24. Registration for machine-pitch baseball (10-12) and baseball (11-12) will continue through Aug. 7. Children must be of age as of Aug. 15, 2024.

    The registration fee is $30 per player (excluding the price of a jersey and hat). After the deadline, a late fee of $15 will be assessed.

    All games will be played at Domtar Park. The season will begin the week of Aug. 14.

    Fall league soccer registration continues in Rogersville

    ROGERSVILLE — Registration is underway for the AYSO Region 1336 fall soccer leagues for youth ages 3-13. The fee is $75 per player (with a $22 discount if a new uniform is not needed for returning players).

    Register online at www.ayso1336.org. Or register in person on July 26-27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Rogersville Parks & Recreation Building. The registration deadline is July 31.

    Small Weight Cardio class rolls on

    ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville Parks and Recreation and Moving-U Fitness will continue the Small Weight Cardio class with ACE-certified personal trainer Neal Ewing on Monday nights from 6-7 p.m. at the Rogersville City Park stage.

    CHURCH HILL — Church Hill Parks and Recreation will host a pool party for all of its league participants on July 25 from 7-9 p.m. at Church Hill City Pool.

    Allandale plans Board Game Day

    KINGSPORT — Allandale Mansion will host a game day event on July 30 from 1-4 p.m., giving friends and family an opportunity to get together at the mansion and enjoy a relaxing afternoon playing their favorite card or board games.

    Come out and explore the mansion’s collection of games or bring along one of your own to enjoy. Bring a friend or come ready to meet up with other players, and feel free to bring your own lunch or enjoy a provided snack.

    Though the event is free, Allandale Mansion officials are asking folks to register to know approximately how many people will be showing up.
