Thus Love, the indie rock quartet out of Brattleboro, Vermont , are back with a new track, “Birthday Song,” which will appear on their upcoming album, All Pleasure , out Nov. 1 via Captured Tracks.

“Birthday Song” finds Thus Love adding a heavier, glam-tinged edge to the post-punk sounds that saturated their 2022 debut, Memorial . The song also serves as an introduction to the group’s two new members, bassist Ally Julien and guitarist/keyboardist Shane Blank.

In a statement, singer/guitarist Echo Mars said “Birthday Song” was about “friendship and how we sometimes don’t give those kinds of platonic relationships the respect and care they need to thrive.” They continued: “We don’t have the same language that we do for romantic partnerships but I think those relationships are every bit as important in making us feel safe, secure and validated. When it came time to select the first single, ‘Birthday Song’ felt like the perfect way to introduce the new version of Thus Love and our new friends, Ally and Shane.”

“Birthday Song” also arrives with a music video directed by Augie Voss and Benni Shumlin, who filmed the band largely in a verdant forest in southern Vermont.  “We sought to capture this new era of the band with a mishmash of lust, ruralness, yearning, pop, and queerdom,” the duo said. “Party-girl and forager alike can get down. For this visual we were excited to lean into the ethereal gay magic that Southern Vermont in the summer can conjure — a world of moss and swamps and sun, where the line between human and creature starts to blur.”

Thus Love have a run of dates in the U.K. slated for this month, and a couple shows in November to mark the release of All Pleasure, including a Nov. 1 hometown show in Brattleboro at the Stone Church. They’ll embark on a proper North American tour in support of the album next year, with the trek scheduled to start Feb. 8, 2025 in Phoenix and wrap Feb. 19 in Troy, New York.
