The NFL is making history by bringing the league to South America next month — and they’re bringing a Brazilian star with them. On Tuesday, the NFL announced that Anitta will headline the league’s first-ever match-up in Brazil on Sept. 6.

Anitta will perform during the halftime of the game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, which is scheduled for Corinthians’ Neo Química Arena in São Paulo.

“Growing up in Brazil has completely shaped my journey as an artist and of course, as a person,” Anitta said in a statement. “It means everything to be able to perform in São Paulo at the NFL’s first game in Brazil, where I can bring fans around the world the excitement and joy of our amazing culture.”

“It’s really a dream come true to be a part of this moment,” she added.

The entire NFL match-up will be a celebration of cultural crossover since the game will be broadcast worldwide and will feature Brazilian pop star Luísa Sonza performing the Brazilian national anthem and Zeeba, who is Brazilian American, singing the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Anitta’s setlist is set to feature a medley of her biggest hits.

“With the excitement of the NFL’s inaugural game in Brazil, we felt it was essential to tap into the rhythm of São Paulo’s dynamic music scene,” said Tim Tubito, director of events and game presentation for the NFL, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome global sensation Anitta and a lineup of Brazil’s finest artists to this landmark event, promising fans and viewers around the globe an unforgettable celebration of culture and performance.”

Fans in the United States will be able to watch highlights of the show via Peacock before it is posted in its entirety on the NFL’s YouTube channel.

The site of the Packers vs. Eagles game is quite historic, as it hosted six matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, including the opening matchup between Brazil and Croatia, which saw the local side win 3-1. This will also not be the first time Anitta performs at a spots event — she also performed at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final last year alongside Burna Boy.
