Armie Hammer Says He’s Selling Truck Because He ‘Can’t Afford the Gas Anymore’

Armie Hammer confirmed that his circumstances are forcing him to downsize. In a new video posted to his Instagram, the actor explained he is selling his beloved 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali pickup truck because he can no longer afford to pay for the gas.

“So, I’ve been back in L.A. for a couple of weeks now, this is my truck,” Hammer said in the clip. “I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself. I have loved this truck intensely and taken it camping and across the country multiple times and on long road trips, and I took it for one last road trip to CarMax.”

He added that the video is “not an ad for CarMax” and instead confirmed that he has decided to sell the truck. “Since being back in L.A., I have put about 400 or 500 dollars worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it,” Hammer said. “I can’t afford the gas anymore.”

He recalled making great memories in the truck, including bringing his kids home from the hospital. “But you know what? That’s okay,” he continued. “I got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably gonna put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month, and this is it. Here’s to new beginnings. It’s my birthday tomorrow.”

The actor added that he will be “starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles.”

After disappearing from the public eye in 2021 following accusations of cannibalism and sexual abuse and rape from multiple women, Hammer has reemerged in Los Angeles recently. In June, he spoke about the allegations on the Painful Lessons podcast, which is hosted by his “close friend” Tyler Ramsey.

“There were things that people were saying about me that just felt so outlandish. Now, I’m able to sort of look at it with a sense of distance and perspective and be like. ‘That’s hilarious.’ People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them,” Hammer said. “They’re like, ‘Yep, that guy ate people.’ You’re just like, ‘What? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people. How am I going to be a cannibal?’ It was bizarre.”

During the podcast, he added: “What I will say about it, even in the indiscrepancies, even in whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened — I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it. I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough, I never was in a place where I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself validation.”

Last month, Hammer appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored , during which he denied that he had ever “eaten any human flesh.” “You know what you have to do to be a cannibal?” he told Morgan. “You have to have actually eaten someone.”

He noted of the sexual assault allegations, “Any of those conversations that we had inside of that relationship, when you take them outside of that context and put them into broad daylight, it doesn’t look so good. You know, different people have different sexual fantasies. And there’s a very broad spectrum of sexuality, and people are allowed to engage with their own sexuality however it fits them and what they do.”
