Comedian Nikki Glaser has delivered her fair share of roasts throughout her career — and now she’s gearing up to lightly and lovingly take aim at Hollywood during her hosting gig at the 82nd annual Golden Globes. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2025, and finds Glaser taking over from this year’s last-minute host, Jo Koy .

“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage),” Glaser shared in a statement. “The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so).”

She added: “It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes). Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled).”

Glaser, like past hosts Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Amy Pohler, and more, will have the added benefit of preparation time. When Jo Koy hosted earlier this year, he only had a few weeks to get ready for the show. He was chosen for the gig after a number of other comedians, including Chris Rock and Ali Wong, declined hosting offers. His bits bombed, getting off to a rocky start with a questionable monologue .

“We were still writing up until they said we’re live,” Koy told the Los Angeles Times in January. “Absolute cold reads, never got a chance to work out anything. And this is not an excuse, I’m just trying to paint the picture because I don’t think people understand, in any situation, how is that geared towards winning?”

Glaser isn’t inheriting the same conditions for her hosting debut. “This is truly a dream job,” she said. “Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season Four will be nominated, right?).”

The Golden Globes returned this year after Dick Clark Productions bought the awards show from the scandal-ridden Hollywood Foreign Press Association. (Full disclosure: Dick Clark Productions is a subsidiary of Rolling Stone’s parent company Penske Media Corporation.)

With Glaser up next as host, executives are already hopeful that the comedian might be able to carry the torch for more than one night. “We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe,” said Jay Penske, Chairman and CEO, of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation.

“Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes,” added Helen Hoehne, President, Golden Globes. “She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.”
