Neil Young and Stephen Stills to Headline ‘Harvest Moon’ Charity Concert

Neil Young and Stephen Stills are coming together Oct. 5 in Lakes Hughes, California, to headline Harvest Moon, a charity concert benefiting the Painted Turtle Camp and the Bridge School. The event will take place on the grounds of the Painted Turtle, which gives children with serious medical conditions an opportunity to attend camp for free. The Bridge School, which was co-founded by Pegi Young in 1986, is an education center for children with severe physical and speech impairments. From 1986 to 2016, Neil Young raised funds for the school with an annual show at the Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View, California.

This is the second Harvest Moon charity show. The first one took place Sept. 14, 2019, with a lineup that included Young, Norah Jones, Father John Misty, and Masanga. Young played a 15-song acoustic set that culminated with a rendition of “Harvest Moon” featuring all of the performers from the evening.

Young and Stills will be joined by additional artists this year that have yet to be announced. “We’re thrilled to welcome the community to Harvest Moon at the Painted Turtle,” said April Tani, executive director of the Painted Turtle. “This event not only brings together amazing musicians and families but also raises vital funds for two organizations committed to changing lives. It’s a day of music, fun, and philanthropy — what could be better?”

“The concert will begin as attendees arrive to the sounds of the marimba ensemble Masanga,” reads a press release. “As the day progresses, Neil Young and Stephen Stills will take the stage for individual sets, joined by other talented performers to be announced. The event will culminate with a sunset performance, creating a magical atmosphere for all who attend. The festival-like day will also feature family-friendly activities, including face painting, food trucks, and much more.”

In late June, Young called off his summer tour with Crazy Horse midway through due to illness. He’ll be returning to the stage Sept. 21 at Farm Aid in Saratoga Springs, New York. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but he recently told fans he’ll be playing a series of theater shows with guitarist Micah Nelson, bassist Corey McCormic, and drummer Anthony Logerfo in the period between Farm Aid and Harvest Moon.

“I can play a little bit of acoustic, and then have the band come out and play,” he said. “They’ll probably be on the East Coast and then going towards Michigan and then Ohio, and then a few other ones. They won’t be marathons. They won’t be two hours and 10 minutes of blasting rock & roll like it was with Crazy Horse.”
