The Nigerian-American author was just 24 when Blood and Bone was published in 2018. The book earned plaudits for incorporating Yoruba culture and tackling themes of colonialism and racism in its fast-paced magic adventure. In the latest book, the protagonist, Zelie, is ripped from her homeland and forced to confront a new enemy. Her captor is King Baldyr, leader of the Skulls, who seeks to harness her powers.
