    After Historic Season, Caitlin Clark Wins WNBA Rookie of the Year Award

    Caitlin Clark was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year, capping a historic season for one of the league’s brightest young stars.

    Clark won the award almost unanimously, securing 66 of the possible 67 votes for the honor while Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese received the last remaining vote. Clark met the hype her rookie season, entering the WNBA as one of the most-promising prospects in league history. The Indiana Fever selected her first overall in the draft back in April ; Clark set the single season scoring record for a rookie this year and broke the single-season assist record.

    “I am incredibly honored to be named Rookie of the Year, but more than that, I am grateful to everyone that supported me throughout this past season — my family and friends, my teammates, the Fever organization and everyone that cheered us on all season,” Clark, who was also named to the all-rookie team, said in a statement on Thursday. “I am so proud of what we accomplished and so excited for what the future holds,” she said.

    Prior to joining the WNBA, Clark enjoyed one of the greatest NCAA basketball careers of all time, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer while guiding Iowa to two national championship games and becoming a two-time National Player of the Year. Clark, alongside other young stars like Reese and Cameron Brink, has been a key force in popularizing women’s basketball i n recent years.

    With Clark, the Fever earned their first trip to the WNBA playoffs since 2016, but they lost in two games to the Connecticut Sun. The Sun are currently facing the Minnesota Lynx in the semi-finals, while the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are on the other side of the playoff bracket fighting for a trip to the finals.
