Bull Run Park in Centreville is often associated with the Civil War. However, decades earlier, the land was the site of the largest individual emancipation of enslaved people in American history, occurring decades before Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. An 18th century African American cemetery sits inside Bull Run Park near the Atlantis Water Park, the first and largest integrated pool in the 1960s.
