Former Houston deputy sentenced to eight years for bribery targeting Vietnamese businesses
HOUSTON, Texas — A former deputy with the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office has been sentenced to eight years in prison for bribery, after demanding money from local Vietnamese businesses under the threat of arrest, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced. Bobby Joe Espinosa, 41, was convicted by a jury during a five-day trial.
Firefighters battle blaze at vacant Houston church
HOUSTON, Texas - A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a vacant church in the Trinity / Houston Gardens area, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage. No injuries were reported, according to the Houston Fire Department.The incident occurred at 3:36 a.m. on Boicewood Street at Lockwood. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames emanating from the side of the one-story building. Crews made an offensive attack and ventilated the roof to extinguish the fire. HFD Arson investigators have been called to determine the cause and origin of the blaze. A total of 34 personnel from Stations 39, 15, 19, 34, 43, 56, and 30 responded to the scene, stated the department.
