Anheuser-Busch Donates Drinking Water to Indiana Fire Department
An effort to get more cans of emergency drinking water to local fire departments is underway, thanks to Anheuser-Busch and the National Volunteer Fire Council. Emergency preparedness is something we hear a lot about, particularly around September during National Preparedness Month. The public service announcements and alerts used to roll right over my head, but now, as a married man with a house and several animals, it's something I keep in mind a little more these days. Disasters can happen at any time, as was clearly seen earlier this week when multiple weather hazards hit the area. If you ask me, preparing for disaster is not only an individual responsibility but also a community responsibility.

United Way of Allen County holds special ‘Day of Caring’ for FWCS
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A special ‘Day of Caring’ was held by the United Way of Allen County on Wednesday, supporting Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS). From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., United Way of Allen County employees as well as community members volunteered to provide maintenance to landscaping at eight FWCS buildings.

FWPD: 17-year-old charged with attempted murder over Sunday shooting
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A 17-year-old accused of shooting a woman outside a home early Sunday morning is now charged with attempted murder. Fort Wayne Police arrested the teenager Wednesday morning. Officers had been looking for him following the disturbance in which a woman was shot Sunday in the 4600 block of Glenmary Drive on the city’s south side.

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University Bloomington has ranked highly in the recently released U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings for 2024-25. Of the 2,250 universities ranked worldwide, IU Bloomington ranked 135th overall for global impact, the highest of the ranked universities in Indiana. North Webster Town Council Approves Right-Of-Way Vacation In NWCC Parking Lot
NORTH WEBSTER - In an expected move, the North Webster Town Council approved the vacation of a a public right-of-way in the parking lot of the North Webster Community Center. This paves the way, literally, for the building of outdoor pickleball and basketball courts in part of the parking lot behind the NWCC. The new athletic facilities are being funded through a $242,500 donation given to the NWCC by the Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation in memory of Jon Sroufe, who was active in both organizations and in the town of North Webster.
Winona Lake Council Hears About Firefighter Campaign
WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Fire Department Public Information Officer Mike Cox brought a letter-writing campaign to the Winona Lake Town Council’s attention Tuesday. Cox said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is looking to looking to adopt 30 or more of the National Fire Protection Association standards. Cox said the fire department understands the proposed regulations are meant to keep everyone safe, but he says they could end up closing volunteer fire departments.
