NWS identifies 7th tornado that touched down in Tri-State on July 9
The National Weather Service has confirmed that a seventh tornado touched down as part of an outbreak of severe storms on July 9. While the headline of that day's outbreak was an EF-3 tornado that ripped through Mount Vernon, Indiana, the remnantes of Hurricane Beryl now officially produced seven twisters in Western Kentucky and Southwestern Indiana.

Power outage closes Fort Wayne Children's Zoo Tuesday
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is among the 16,000 I&M customers left without power Tuesday following Monday night’s storms. A spokesperson for the zoo posted on the organization’s Facebook page Tuesday morning saying due to a zoo-wide outage, they will be closed for the day.

HUD sending $2.3 million to Fort Wayne Housing Authority
The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development announced it is disseminating $40 million to different community organizations that work to prevent homelessness. The Fort Wayne Housing Authority was chosen to get $2.3 million of that fund. Officials said the funding should help both enhance current programs and create new ones to help impoverished people find and keep stable housing.
Illinois man takes plea deal in fatal 2023 shooting
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A 30-year-old Illinois man accepted a plea agreement Tuesday in connection with the fatal 2023 shooting of a Fort Wayne man. Jesse Shears was one of four people charged with murder in connection with the death of 40-year-old Dennis Starr of Fort Wayne. Samuel Evans III, 51, 24-year-old Samuel Evans IV and 26-year-old Lexus Evans, a father and his two children, were also charged in the case.
